Whilst Simon Gittons was sentenced to 26 years in jail for throwing his partner over a balcony there is another case in the courts

A witness spoke about Ms Yeo's decision to end an affair between her and her boyfriend, which had begun in 2011 when they worked together at the Brisbane office of pharmaceutical company.  The court heard that after Ms Yeo ended the affair with her workmate. The court heard that after she broke off the affair her then ex-boyfriend became increasingly obsessed and angry, causing Ms Yeo to fear for her safety and go to great lengths to avoid all contact.

In July 2012, he allegedly lied to his wife, with whom he had partly reconciled, telling her he was going to Melbourne when in fact he was going to Sydney. Among his luggage, the court heard, was a length of chain which he allegedly intended to use to kill Ms Yeo.

On the night of the alleged murder, neighbours allegedly heard screaming coming from Ms Yeo's apartment block. When they banged on the door and asked if everything was all right, they heard a muffled woman's voice screaming for help.

The court heard that the sound may have been muffled because Ms Yeo's throat had been cut.

Mr Mulvihill's defence barrister Kate Traill said her client did not deny that he went to Ms Yeo's apartment, but denied he intended to kill her.
